An agreed statement of facts read in court said the men were at a party in Morin’s home in Pelican Narrows, where the 22-year-old victim was later found stabbed 10 times in the accused man’s bedroom.

Court also heard that Dorion had earlier tried to stab his friend.

Morin called 911 and later told someone he had done something wrong and would be going to jail, but it was three weeks before he turned himself in.

Morin had been serving a conditional sentence for another offence at the time of Dorion’s death and there had been a warrant issued for his arrest.

The Crown agreed to drop Morin’s past charges, which included common assault, belonging to a criminal organization, committing a home invasion while wearing a disguise and uttering a death threat.

Crown prosecutor Fran Atkinson said Dorion’s aunt told court she forgives Morin and that she wants everyone in Pelican Narrows to do the same.

Atkinson said when Morin stood to address Dorion’s family, they gathered around him and hugged him.
