GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – RCMP have laid three sexual assault charges against a former Grande Prairie, Alta., doctor.
Dr. Romelito Delacruz is next due in court Nov. 26.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta also suspended Delacruz from practicing for six months for “inappropriately examining two female patients.”
He was ordered to pay more than $61,000 for the costs of the investigation and hearing.
One 16-year-old girl complained to the college that while she was seeing Delacruz about a tonsillectomy, he exposed and examined her breasts and touched her buttocks and genitals.
Another patient complained that Delacruz touched her buttocks and genitals while she was seeing him about complications from a chin implant.
“During the investigation of both complaints, Dr. Delacruz defended his examinations as medically necessary,” the college said in a news release Tuesday.
However, the college said expert opinions from other medical personnel were that the examinations were inappropriate.
His suspension is set to expire on May 14, 2013.
Delacruz practiced in Grande Prairie from 2005 to 2010.
