Christmas kettle campaign kicks off in Kelowna

The Salvation Army's kettle campaign is now underway in the central Okanagan. Global News

It’s a long running Christmas tradition; the Salvation Army’s kettle campaign. While the kettle bells started ringing in the Central Okanagan on Thursday, the official kick-off happens Friday.

Local celebrity and media personalities will launch the annual campaign by ringing the bells in front of the Walmart in Kelowna from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Last year, the Salvation Army helped around 600 local families in need through the organization’s Christmas food and toy program.

The Salvation Army says there’s been a 20 per cent increase so far this year from 2015 for families needing help with food, clothing, furniture and other provisions.

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to ring the bells.  If you are interested in volunteering for a two hour shift, you can get more information online at www.kelownasalvationarmy.ca or call the office at 250-860-2329.
