Focus Montreal introduces Montrealers to people who are shaping our community and bringing their stories into focus.
It airs on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and at midnight.
Take a look at who we’re meeting this week on Focus Montreal:
Election 2016: What’s next?
The man behind “The Art of the Deal” closed the biggest deal of all on Tuesday.
Billionaire businessman and political neophyte Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States. Trump secured several wins in battleground states, surpassing the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House.
Republicans also managed to retain their lock on both the House and the Senate.
During his victory speech, the president-elect pledged to be a leader for “all Americans.”
The big question now is what happens next?
U.S. political analyst Rafael Jacob joins senior anchor Jamie Orchard to offer some perspective.
‘Let’s stomp out violence’
The West Island Women’s Shelter (WIWS) is a safe haven for victims of conjugal violence and their children.
Since 1979 the shelter has been a place of comfort and safety to so many women living in fear. But the shelter is more than just an emergency lifeline, it’s also a place where women can regain control over their lives and thrive once again.
To continue with its mission, WIWS is kicking off its “Let’s stomp out violence” fundraising campaign next Thursday with the Pumps & Pearls event at the Le Château store in Pointe-Claire’s Fairview Mall.
Board member and family law attorney, Brigitte Garceau, joins senior anchor Jamie Orchard to talk about the campaign.
For more information on the campaign, or to learn more about the shelter, visit the WIWS website.
GreatMtler: Ashkan Karbasfrooshan
This week’s Great Montrealer is a visionary who has tapped into the media world of a new generation.
Ashkan Karbasfrooshan is the founder and CEO of WatchMojo.com a Montreal-based media company.
WatchMojo has 13 million subscribers and more than 7 billion views on YouTube and produces over two hours of content a day that is researched, written, edited and voiced in Montreal.
But getting his company to where it is now wasn’t easy.
“When we had accrued a million dollars of debt, it was a big number” Karbasfrooshan said. “Our company’s accountants and lawyers thought I should get my head checked.”
Karbasfrooshan discusses how he built his company from the ground up.
There are so many Great Montrealers around us. If you know someone who should be profiled as part of Global News’ Greater Montreal campaign, don’t forget to nominate them!
