The presidential election win by Donald Trump last night not only created shock waves across the United States; many Manitobans were also taken off guard by the results.
The majority of residents asked Wednesday in Downtown Winnipeg expressed concern- and a general feeling of shock- over the election of Trump.
“I’m a little worried. Some of the things that Presidential Elect Trump said are a little concerning, especially for Canadians,” said one man at the corner of Portage and Main. “I think generally the extreme-right-wing attitude flies in the face of what Canadians think.”

Many others voiced their displeasure with not only the Trump win- but with the unpredictable nature of the election cycle. One man said Tuesday’s election taught him to “expect the unexpected”, while another said the results were “very unpredictable and very surprising” to him.
“I’m really disappointed. I watched the news and bit my nails [until they were] bleeding.”
One woman asked said that she “cried a little bit” as results were pouring in Tuesday.

The win comes just two days after a poll said more than half of Manitobans would support Hillary Clinton if they were given a say in the election.
“It is what it is. I think he’s kind of crazy and I don’t know why they would want him as their leader,” said another Winnipeg resident.
“Just wait and see what happens.”
But, just like in the United States, there are Trump supporters in Winnipeg; meaning not every answer was rooted in shock or surprise.
