Dozens of people gathered in south Edmonton today, to celebrate the official opening of our city’s newest fire station.
The new station in Ellerslie can accommodate up to six emergency vehicles at any given time. The station is equipped with the latest technology in the industry, and is an environmentally friendly building.
Fire Chief Ken Block says it also has a training facility which will he used to host technical training sessions for all firefighters south of the river.

“The delivery of our service to the citizens of Edmonton really hinges on our fire stations working together. This is going to be an anchor, and having this station open, and in its location is going to improve the level of service, not only in the Ellerslie neighbourhood, but in fact, throughout the city of Edmonton.”
Located on 1203 Ellwood Road, Block says it’s in a great location to access many areas of southern Edmonton.
“As far as the strategic location of the station to serve the citizens, it’s just outstanding. We’ve got great access to the Henday, very close of course to Highway 2 and Calgary Trail.”
The building was funded by the provincial government, as well as the municipal sustainability initiative.
This is Edmonton’s 27th fire station. Block says eventually, it will become a district station.
