Performers and entertainers have consistently donated their time and services to help raise funds for children with special needs. That charitable tradition continues today and it continues with Todd Richard. Todd and his musical partner Jeff Johnson came up with an amazing idea to pull the country music community together for Variety.

Global News at Noon:
Variety has funded programs and facilities in hospitals across the province for fifty years. Variety Cares is a new program designed to give families at neonatal intensive care units immediate access to funds. And as Neetu Garcha reports, that provides assistance when it is needed most.

News Hour at 6:
In 2011, Variety gave a million dollar grant to Surrey Memorial’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We talk to a family whose son was born 100 days premature and is getting stronger on a daily basis thanks to the equipment purchased from Variety’s donation.
The Surrey School District, in partnership with the RCMP and the City of Surrey, launched the Surrey WRAParound Program in 2009. The focus of the program is to help positively attach youth (some of whom have been, or who may become, involved with gang activity) to their school, their family, the community and their peers. WRAP is based on the wraparound “philosophy of care” approach.
The summer Wrap program includes a variety of positive outings, recreation activities, workshops and work experience projects for older students, ensuring they stay engaged with appropriate, supportive and guiding adult mentors and away from negative influences and behaviours. Students will build skills, new interests and positive visions for the future during the summer months.
