They may be in a calendar but they’re more than just canine eye-candy.
Instead, the four-legged members of the Vancouver Police Department’s Canine Unit are using their beguiling looks for a good cause — the 2017 Vancouver Police Dogs Calendar.
The calendars, which feature police dogs working in the field performing different tasks like explosive detection, tracking and working with emergency response, go on sale today for $15 each.
All the money raised goes to the BC Cancer Foundation and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Last year, the calendar raised $30,000, bringing the total raised to $160,000.
The calendars have been put together since 2007 but printed annually since 2010. Anyone can buy a calendar at Tisol shops, any Vancouver Community Police Centres, the Vancouver Police Museum, BC Cancer Foundation, the BC Children’s Hospital, online or via their Facebook page.
The Vancouver Police Canine Unit has 15 handler/dog teams and this will be the seventh year for the Vancouver Police Dogs Calendar. The teams are trained in criminal apprehension, as well as narcotics, firearms and explosives detection.

The stars of the calendar, along with their handlers, will be having sidewalk sales in the coming weeks, selling calendars and meeting the public.
