Kelowna RCMP are reminding pedestrians to wear reflective clothing following a serious incident early Tuesday morning.

The reminder comes after a pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing Richter Street.

They say the incident happened shortly after 7 a.m. in the 3100 block of Richter near KLO Road where a northbound Mitsubishi hit a young girl at a marked crosswalk.

Police say the pedestrian suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The 59-year-old driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Police say weather was a factor.

“Low light conditions, in that area during the early morning hours, mixed with reduced visibility, due to a light rain at that time, were believed to be contributing factors in the crash,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “RCMP wish to remind pedestrians to wear bright, reflective clothing or gear to help ensure they are more visible to drivers.”
