What do poutine and mentoring have in common? They are both part of a new fundraising initiative currently taking place for Big Brothers Big Sisters Saskatoon (BBBS).
Fifteen restaurants are participating in YXE Poutine week, with funds from any of their signature poutine dishes going towards the mentorship program.
Currently there is a large national demand for more male mentors, known as Big Brothers, in the program. On average it takes a young boy two to three years to be matched with a Big Brother, while girls typically only take a couple of months.

Kerry Sawicki is a Big Brother and says he’s been able to really incorporate his “little” into his family.
“We treat him like he’s my brother and my kids call him uncle,” Sawicki said, adding that their favourite yearly event is to attend a Riders game in Regina.
BBBS hopes that while you try some of the city’s best poutine you also think about those you are supporting.
