TORONTO – As you head out for a candy-fuelled evening Wednesday night, several smartphone Halloween apps are available to download for parents and chaperones hoping to ease their worries about keeping children safe.
Trick or Tracker 3.0 tracks your child using GPS technology and will send you the exact info of your child through a text message. Both the parent and child, however, will need a phone with GPS capabilities to monitor the locations.
Another useful app is Flashflight for your iPhone or Android. The app fills up your phone screen with a bright LED light, providing you or your child with a handy tool should you find yourself in a dark street.
After the handles on your bag of candy break due to all of the goodies you’ve stolen received from your neighbours, head home and carry on the festivities with the following apps listed below. They are guaranteed-just not by us-to make your Halloween full of scares and mayhem.
Carve It! Pumpkin Carving: Pumpkin carving can be tough, especially with the increased social pressure to make them look creative and resemble anything but a typical jack-o-lantern. They are even deemed a safety hazard if left unattended and next to decorations. Carve It! Pumpkin Carving allows you to avoid the pumpkin mess and helps you to draw your own version of Jack on your phone. Unlike many other pumpkin carving apps, this one allows you to draw your own face with your finger. When you’re all done, the app allows you to light up (without candles or matches, of course) what will surely be a masterpiece of a creation.

True Ghost Stories From Around the World: For many, Halloween nights can often bring you back to your childhood memories in front of the fireplace. As you casually stuff empty candy wrappers into your sweater (or your sibling’s) in hopes no one noticed that you just ate a handful of candy before it was advised it was safe to do so, family members gathered around for a night of “scary” stories. Every year, however, the ghost stories that were told never included tales of ancient woods, isolated old houses or crumbling cemeteries and strangely always focused on ‘Casper the Friendly Ghost.’ The app True Ghost Stories From Around the World features scary stories submitted by users worldwide that can potentially leave those reading them screaming rather than yawning.

ZombieSmash: For $0.99 cents, we think this app is worth all the 99 pennies it will cost. This defense-style game has been available for some time and casts users as a lone survivor seeking to defend his home from zombies. By “flicking” the brain-eating creatures off the screen, the game progresses to allow players to unlock various items aimed to keep away the undead.

Halloween Alarm Clock: Truthfully, we are not sure why anyone sensible would want this app, but Halloween Alarm Clock allows you to set up multiple alarms. With 20 sounds to choose from, one can wake up to “Trapped by a Demon” or “Evil Laughter,” which will most likely evoke life into the dead (let’s just hope those skills you honed in ZombieSmash to ward off the resurrected corpses are transferrable to real life scenarios).
