UPDATE: Nov. 3 – The woman who owned the diary found in an abandoned camper has contacted Global News and said she is ok. She also said she is not a drug dealer and identifies as a sex trade worker.
Oct. 24 – It’s an abandoned camper, dumped in the backwoods of West Kelowna near Annabel Stanley’s home, and she’s convinced it was somebody’s home.
“You can see the occupant’s garbage, clothing, bikini. Somebody, a female, was living in this camper’” said Stanley. “There was a table with a Monopoly board taped to it so there was a lot of Monopoly being played. It was somebody’s home.”
Food was left behind including fresh bread and cherries indicating the occupant left in a hurry.
And then Stanley found something that haunts her.
“I found the book amongst a whole bunch of garbage.”
The book, a diary of sorts, hints someone with a troubled past was living in the trailer.
“It has somebody’s name written at the front saying: ‘If this book is found please call, and then the phone number,’” said Stanley.
The next pages offer a glimpse of who the owner is or was. Maybe a prostitute, maybe a drug dealer, maybe both.
“She’s got things like: ‘Tattooed guy, May 5, $130. Afternoon dude, May 8, $140. Nerd, $220. Will, May 13, $240.’ So either she was selling drugs or she was selling herself,” said Stanley.
But it was the last page that sent shivers down Stanley’s spine.
“There’s a sad little thing on the last page, the last entry into the book, and it says: ‘Now what the f*** do I do. Love should not hurt like this. Love should not try to spark fear in you. Love sure don’t put his hands around my neck.’”
Global News called the number in the book but there was no answer.
Stanley wonders what happened to the woman who left the chilling message behind.
“Who knows? But it would be nice that if she was missing, somebody cared,” said Stanley.
Stanley passed on the information in the book to the RCMP.
She says they never got back to her.
