Nelson Kinney was not feeling well and was in bed when the earthquake struck Saturday night.
“It rolled me right off the bed, and I got up and grabbed the window sill and I thought ‘my god, what’s going on?,” he said.

“It was bad.”
Some waterfront areas were evacuated in Prince Rupert Saturday night following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit off the coast of Haida Gwaii around 8 p.m.
Kinney said emergency services had everything under control very quickly following the quake. “RCMP and our fire department were absolutely fabulous,” he said. “They had the waterfront blocked off and everybody was warned. They were watching it very close, and they just worked together really well.”
Shaking from the earthquake was felt in many different parts of the province, and the force of the quake triggered a tsunami warning for Hawaii.
