It’s an animal activist group known around the world for protecting animals of all shapes and sizes.

Local supporters raised their voices for the furry animals that can’t, in front of The Bay on Saturday.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as PETA, asked people downtown to sign their petition against wearing furs.

“There is many other alternatives, faux alternatives, that are just as warm and break the wind just as well in today’s society,” said Janice Pennington with Human Education Network. “You don’t need to be wearing a dead animal on your jacket.”

Protestors say cat and dog furs are sometimes used as trim on sweaters and jackets and are often marked as faux furs.
