Quigley sentenced to 12 years for killing girlfriend – Oct 21, 2016

Ryan James Quigley has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, less time served, for killing his live-in girlfriend Aimee Jane Parkes in 2014.

Quigley, 36, was stoic in Kelowna court Friday afternoon as Madame Justice Alison Beames read his sentence, while Parkes’ mother,  Janice Plum, broke down in tears.

Quigley attempted to plead guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of Parkes when the trial began at the end of September. While that plea was initially rejected by the prosecution, after almost a month of testimony it was accepted earlier this week.

In his opening statement the prosecutor said Parkes bled to death after suffering 26 stab wounds to her upper body.

The judge said the sentence length is on the higher end of the spectrum for a manslaughter conviction.

“It’s near murder,” Madame Justice Alison Beames said.

Less time served Quigley has nine years and five months left on his sentence.
