Brad Wall drops to third as most popular premier in Canada

Brad Wall no longer maintains bragging rights for being the most popular premier in the country.

Wall has held the highest approval rating among all the premiers since 2010 but according to a new Mainstreet/Postmedia poll out Friday morning, he now comes in third nation-wide.

With 45 per cent national approval, Quebec’s Philipe Coulliard is now the most popular premier, with Alberta Premier Rachel Notley coming in a close second at 44 per cent.

Wall dropped to 42 per cent, with most support across the country coming from the Prairie provinces.

“On the national stage, Brad Wall, a leading critic of (Justin) Trudeau, scores quite well with 42 per cent approval and just 30 per cent disapproval,” said Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet Research.

In Saskatchewan, Wall’s approval rating was 52 per cent. He scored higher in Manitoba, where his approval rating was 65 per cent.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a 65 per cent approval rating nation-wide, but only 48 per cent of those polled in Saskatchewan approved of his performance.

Only Alberta, at 44 per cent, gave Trudeau a lower approval rating provincially.

The poll of 5,525 people across Canada was conducted between Oct. 5 and 6. It has a margin of error of +/-1.33 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
