Top 5 best ‘Gangnam Style’ parodies

TORONTO – If you haven’t heard of “Gangnam Style,” it’s likely that your watercooler conversations are about to change.

 

 

The quirky video about an upscale neighbourhood in Seoul called “Gangnam” includes a dance that people love to parody. Hundreds of parodies have been popping up as the song is viewed by more and more people around the world – more than 530 million views have been counted on YouTube so far.

The performer has also become a fixture on North American talk shows, even meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to demo the dance.

 With this in mind, Global News wanted to showcase some of the best video parodies of “Gangnam Style.”

Justin Trudeau Style: Twelve-year-old Sam Barringer from Hamilton, Ontario pokes fun at Liberal politician Justin Trudeau in a “Gangnam Style” fashion. The boy has made political humour his hobby and has previously released YouTube videos that aim to hold politicians accountable on certain issues.

 

 

 

Mitt Romney Style: College Humour, an online entertainment video website, created an original hit when they produced “Mitt Romney Style,” a parody of the Republican presidential candidate. The lyrics mention some of Romney’s most notable gaffes.

 

 

Gangnam Stratford Style: Some of the actors from the world famous Canadian theatre company joined forces with Canadian news icon Peter Mansbridge to deliver their performance. (Mansbridge makes a cameo at about a 1:15.)

Ai Weiwei does Gangnam Style:

Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei took on the parody while also taking a jab at Chinese censors. Ai told The Associated Press on Thursday that he decided to make the video after learning that the family of his friend Zuoxiao Zuzhou, a famous rock star in China, was losing its home to a demolition crew.
 

 

 

Umma Gangnam Style: This parody features a mom and son duo, collaborating to show their best impression of how to do a proper “Gangnam Style.” According to some reports, this is PSY’s favourite parody, even earning the pair a guest spot on the popular American TV talk show, Ellen.
