A man who admitted to a brazen nightclub shooting in downtown Calgary has been sentenced to seven years in jail.
On Thursday, a judge accepted a joint submission by the prosecution and defence for Mohamed Salad, 30.
Earlier this month, Salad pleaded guilty to two counts of discharging a firearm with intent.

All charges against co-accused Mohamed Elmi, 32, were stayed and he was released from custody.
According to an agreed statement of facts, Salad “walked directly into the front exterior doors between the doorman and some other people, raised the handgun to his chest level and started firing.”
Court heard Salad fired three bullets into the nightclub and a fourth which did not enter the club.

One of the bullets struck a patron on the dance floor who was “rushed to surgery to save his life.”
Court heard the victim lost a kidney as a result of the incident and “suffers from pain and discomfort as well as permanent injury.”
The judge handed Salad a seven-year jail sentence. With credit for time served, he has just under six years left to serve.
Salad is also subject to a lifetime firearms and weapons ban.
