Edmonton police are carrying out an active shooter training exercise Wednesday at Rogers Place, City Hall, and Commonwealth Stadium. The exercise started at 5 a.m. and goes until 2:30 p.m.

The EPS said people will see a heightened security presence in all three areas, with police officers, firefighters, paramedics and EMTs on scene, and may hear loud bangs and shouting. Actors are being used in the scenarios to make them more realistic.

Police are asking people not to call 911, as officers will already be on scene, and to avoid the three areas so the training is not compromised.
