Saskatoon police chase ends with crash in downtown core

Saskatoon police have a man in custody following a chase in the city on Monday morning.

Police officials said a marked traffic unit tried to make a vehicle stop near 29th Street and Idylwyld Drive in the Caswell Hill neighbourhood at around 9:30 a.m. CT.

The driver refused to stop and took off at what police said was unsafe speeds and in an unsafe manner through the downtown core.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a parked car at 21st Street and Spadina Crescent.

Police said no injuries were reported.

The driver attempted to flee on foot but was tracked down by officers a short distance from the crash.

Police said the vehicle he was driving was not stolen.

A passenger in the vehicle was arrested but later released with no charges laid.

The 25-year-old man has been charged with failing to stop for police and possession of stolen property.

He is also being investigated for impaired driving by drug or alcohol.
