Cape Breton residents can now apply for financial assistance after Thanksgiving Day flood

Starting Sunday, residents in Cape Breton who were impacted by the Thanksgiving Day flood can start their applications for financial assistance.

The Nova Scotia government says residents can apply directly to the Disaster Financial Assistance Program, which is available to help municipalities, homeowners, small businesses, farmers and not-for-profit organizations recover from emergencies.

The program will cover up to $200,000 per household. Applications are available online here and will be available next week at some Access Nova Scotia Centres, MLA offices, and town halls.

“We know that people are going through a very stressful time and we want to do whatever we can to ease their burden,” said Premier Stephen McNeil in a news release.

“This is another step in the rebuilding effort.”

People affected by the storm are asked keep all receipts and take pictures and video of damage.
