A five-year-old Texas boy is being described as a “trooper” after pulling his little brother from the burning wreckage of a big-rig crash that killed their father.
Local police told NBC the father was driving an 18-wheeler moving truck in Houston Friday when he lost control, drove off the road and hit a guardrail.
The five-year-old boy who hasn’t been identified by police was ejected from the truck. Police say he then pulled his two-year-old brother from the burning vehicle.
“He’s a trooper. He was ejected. He was sitting down, talking to us,” Sgt. James Roque of the Houston Police told NBC.
“He was giving us everyone’s name and he was asking about his father. He helped us out a lot to piece together a lot of things we would not have known.”
Hotel worker Dhaval Shah witnessed the crash and said he saw the five-year-old running around aimlessly when his little brother was lying on the road.
Shah stayed with the children until police arrived.

Police say both children were taken to hospital. The little brother suffered severe burns, while the five-year-old had minor injuries.
The father was killed in the accident. The kids’ mother was driving ahead of her family and did not get hurt. The family was moving to Galveston in Texas.
Police said the mother wasn’t aware of the crash until hours later.
