Vancouver opened the city’s newest park at Yukon Street and 17th Avenue with complimentary coffee, pastries and bike repairs on Wednesday morning, as well as a request for Vancouverites to name it.
The new park, which was designed with community feedback, features a playground, garden beds and bike repair stations with tools cyclists can use for basic fixes on their bikes. The stations are the first of their kind to be installed in Vancouver.
Residents can learn more about the Park Board’s Name Your Park initiative on the city’s website. Currently, there are 22 parks in Vancouver in need of an official name.
The new park at Yukon Street and 17th Avenue is a former residential lot that was acquired by the city of Vancouver in 2013 and transformed into a 0.15-hectare park at a cost of $600,000.
