Workers at PotashCorp’s Rocanville and Lanigan mines have been given temporary layoff notices.
The news comes hours after PotashCorp issued a profit warning to investors saying earnings for the 2012 financial year will be lower than previously estimated.
The mine at Lanigan will shut down from Nov. 18 to Jan. 12 while the Rocanville mine will be closed from Dec. 2 to Jan. 26.

Employees at Lanigan had just returned to work after a one-month layoff.
PotashCorp says the layoffs are necessary due to a drop in demand.
There is no word yet on how many of the 875 employees at the two mines will be affected by the eight-week layoffs.
