GO Transit discontinues monthly pass for Presto Card

TORONTO – GO Transit has announced that it is scrapping its monthly pass in favour of the Presto electronic, reloadable fare pass.

A spokesperson for GO Transit confirmed to Global News on Monday that the monthly pass will no longer be available after January 1, 2013.

After January, if customers choose not to use a Presto Pass, the only remaining alternative will be single ride tickets.

According to GO Transit 350,000 customers use Presto cards.

The electronic cards can be reloaded at in-person customer service outlets, by phone, online, or by pre-approved credit card payments.

GO Transit offers a built-in customer loyalty program for customers who use Presto passes. According to the GO Transit website, “GO riders receive fare discounts based upon the number of rides taken and the value of the fares accumulated within the calendar month.”

In addition to GO Transit, Presto cards can be used at 14 TTC subway stations, including Bloor-Yonge, Downsview, Finch and Union.
