Security cameras, barricades, road closures and countless police officers are just some of the security measures in place ahead of the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the legislature in Victoria on Saturday afternoon.

The former chair of Victoria’s Monarchist League said the beefed up security is to be expected for Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
“There’s of course incredible security for people like this,” Bruce Hallstrom said. “We’re hosting two future kings for more than a week.”

The Royal Family travels with their own police, SO-14, which is a division of the London Police Service. Security expert Dr. Kenneth Christie said they will be working with Canadian law enforcement CSIS, RCMP and Victoria Police to ensure the family’s safety.
During the day, Victoria police officers could be seen patrolling Government House, where Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be staying for the entire trip.

Christie said for this particular visit, the royals have reason to be extra careful.
“After the bombings last year and the continued bombings in Syria, ISIS have made Britain a target and we know that from European and British intelligence agencies and the Royal Family of course is a major part of the British establishment,” he said.
Security throughout the entire trip will be tight, so Christie isn’t expecting anything will happen.
However, any details surrounding the increased enforcement aren’t being released.
In an email to Global News, an RCMP spokesperson said “the RCMP does not disclose the number of police personnel assigned to work during this type of visit.” Mounties also could not provide a cost breakdown, citing “security reasons.”
The City of Victoria said they couldn’t provide that information either, but announced they would be installing temporary cameras throughout downtown.
