A driver is facing criminal charges after a car rolled over and burst into flames following a road rage incident involving a group of motorcyclists in Mississauga, Ont., late Thursday evening.

Ontario Provincial Police say a vehicle was travelling westbound on Highway 401 in Toronto around 11 p.m. when it tried to pass a group of motorcyclists who were blocking the road.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said both parties then exited at Dixie Road in Mississauga following an “interaction” on the highway where the vehicle was damaged.

Police say the driver then got out of the vehicle and was assaulted by a motorcyclist.

Police say a passenger in the vehicle then took the wheel and proceeded down Dixie Road where it rolled over and hit a retaining wall following a pursuit by the motorcyclists.

The car then burst into flames but the driver managed to escape with minor injuries. OPP say the individual has since been charged with dangerous driving and drug possession.

Police say they are looking for witnesses who may have spotted the interaction.

“We don’t want people getting involved and engaging with motorists. If you see a problem, call 911. We will do our best to get into position and make sure the behaviour does not continue,” Schmidt said.
