Police say video footage from the area shows a small group of people boarding the schooner at about 1:30 a.m.

They say it appears the group raised one of the sails and untied all of the securing ropes except for one and then left the ship.

Police say the vessel shifted over a four hour period until finally breaking free around 5 a.m.

The Silva has since been retrieved and is tied up at the dock.
