Montrealers weren’t getting anywhere fast on René-Lévesque Boulevard Monday morning.

A massive construction crane has forced a two-lane closure on the busy boulevard, between De La Montagne and Peel streets.

The downtown borough of Ville-Marie granted a construction company a permit to close the road in order to work on a high rise condominium tower in the area.

The work has created traffic chaos westbound as drivers are forced to merge from three to one lane, on the eastbound side of the road.

René-Lévesque Boulevard is expected to reopen Tuesday morning.

Commuters said they’re not holding their breath for better driving conditions as the city continues on with its construction blitz.
