WINNIPEG — A city committee has agreed to spend $2.8 million to keep grass under control in parks and boulevards.

This comes after a new report was presented to city hall Monday, saying mowing service around Winnipeg needed improvement.

Currently, the city cuts grass in public areas once every 10 to 14 days, but city staff says it should be done once every four to five days during the summer months, when rainfall and warm temperatures cause excessive growth in grass.

The report says within the last few years, “resources for park grass maintenance have been stretched even further than normal due to the addition of new developments and reductions in parks maintenance staff”.

The final decision on the increased funding will ultimately be made as part of the 2017 budget process.
