Fort McMurray hockey team holding ceremonies for wildfire first responders

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons will commemorate the people who battled the wildfires in the Wood Buffalo region in May and helped evacuate and return residents to the region.

The AJHL team will hold ceremonies before their home games this Saturday and Sunday.

“We want to make this a weekend to remember for all McMurrayites and give them an opportunity to personally thank all of the brave men and women that protected our community,” Oil Barons president David Fitzgerald said.

The Oil Barons said there will be opening ceremonies with videos, lights, introductions, and a ceremonial puck drop before both games.

A section at the Casman Centre will also be reserved for first responders and their families during the games.

There will be free admission for everyone for both games.
