Alberta inspectors conducting a safety check in Red Deer earlier this month failed 63 commercial vehicles.
Vehicles were checked to ensure they had proper documentation and registration, that dangerous goods were properly secured and marked, and that those transporting animals were following health regulations.
The safety checks took place at three locations on Sept. 7 and 8, and resulted in 40 per cent of vehicles being taken out of service.
These vehicles are required to be fixed immediately and are not allowed on the road until violations have been corrected,” RCMP said in a Tuesday news release.

In total, 91 violations and 60 regulatory issues were identified. Of these violations, three vehicles were found to be overloaded and three were in violation of dangerous goods transportation regulations.
“All commercial vehicles across the country are required to meet specific safety standards according to federal and provincial legislation,” Sgt. Al Nickolson said.
Inspectors issued a total of 21 violation tickets. In addition, RCMP issued one 24-hour suspension related to drug impairment and arrested one person for an outstanding warrant.
