PENTICTON – They’ve already donated $30,000. Now they’ve made a pledge to triple that amount.

Several branches of the Royal Canadian Legion in the south Okanagan-Similameen have joined forces to try to raise $90,000 over five years to help buy medical equipment for the new patient care tower at the Penticton Regional Hospital.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The reason we picked the hospital is this hospital is old and in need of upgrading,” said Legion spokesperson Ed Findlater in a news release. “Everybody in our zone’s Legion branches uses this hospital at one time or another. Our kids are going to be using the hospital.”

The money comes from the Legion’s Poppy Fund, 50/50 lotteries and meat draws.

With more than 4,000 members collectively, Findlater is confident the various Legion branches will reach the fund-raising goal.
