Calgary’s downtown parking rate still highest in Canada, second in North America

Calgary is keeping its dubious title of Canada’s priciest place to park.

The average median parking rate in Calgary is second only to New York City, according to Colliers International’s 12th Annual Parking Survey.

The survey was released on Tuesday, and uses data collected during the month of June 2012.

Calgary’s parking rate is US$439.93 (approximately CAD$432.60), second only to New York (US$562 Midtown, US$533 Downtown) and higher than other large North American cities such as Boston (US$405) and San Francisco (US$375)

However, the rate increase in Calgary this year was fairly moderate at only two per cent, below the national average.

In comparison, drivers in Montreal saw their rates increase by 11.7 per cent, while drivers in Edmonton saw a 7.3 per cent hike.

However, drivers in Toronto and Vancouver are breathing a sigh of relief, after their average parking rates dropped by 4.8 per cent and 3.5 per cent respectively.
