Apple unveiled a redesigned iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Wednesday, confirming the long-rumoured removal of the headphone jack.
And while some consumers may feel hesitant to purchase one of the new smartphones thanks to the removal of the headphone jack – others might be more put off by the price of the iPhone 7 in Canada.

Even after adjusting for the weak loonie, Canadian consumers will still pay more than those in the U.S.
For example, the 32 GB iPhone 7 costs US$649.
The same model costs $899 in Canada.
However, according to the currency conversion at time of publishing, the phone costs $838 after adjustments. That means, even after the exchange rate is factored in, Americans will be paying about $60 less for the phone than Canadians will.
Apple declined to comment on the price adjustment.
Here’s a breakdown of what each iPhone 7 and 7 Plus model will cost you without a contact from a carrier:

According to Statistics Canada, Canadian workers make an average of $25.46 per hour. Based on that wage, the average person who works 40 hours per week makes around $1,018 per week.
That means, with taxes factored in, it would take the average worker a week or more to pay off the base model 32 GB iPhone 7.
A quick search on Expedia.ca found a trip for a seven-day stay at a five-star resort in Punta Cana for $1,050 – one dollar more than the 32 GB iPhone 7 Plus (without tax factored in).
In fact, you could buy an 11-inch MacBook Air for $1,099. That’s less costly than the 128 GB and 256 GB iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models.

While Apple’s prices may seem high, its competitors also charge a good chunk of change for smartphones, too.
The 32 GB Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone costs $800 and the Galaxy S7 Edge costs $900 in Canada.
The Motorola Moto Z smartphone — which also doesn’t have a headphone jack — will cost $899 without a contract when it launches later this month in Canada.
The iPhone 7 will be available for pre-order starting Friday.
