Cora Iverson, a student at École Beairsto Elementary, was making her first trip home by school bus when she missed her stop.

“She wasn’t there,” her dad, Rick, said. “She never came off the bus.”

“Your heart just stops.”

After his wife searched with school district staff for 30 minutes, they found Cora still on her bus along the route.

But Iverson said the bus driver had her marked as dropped off.

The family are disturbed the district does not hold drivers accountable for students on their buses.

“There was no support, no reassuring that this was a onetime incident,” he said.

Iverson is looking for further answers from School District 22.

“I want to make sure that they follow up. I don’t think this should ever happen. There should be some sort of protocol.”

“We have two more little kids coming up here and just would hate to go through this again,” he said.
