Meet the baseball fan packing puns to Winnipeg Goldeyes games – Sep 8, 2016

WINNIPEG — At a baseball field that hosts countless characters, Sam Doucet stands out.

Not just for passion he brings into Shaw Park but also his unique wit.

“What a better sport than baseball to do this kind of gimmick where I have signs for individual players,” said Doucet.

Pun packed posters to be exact. Each one playing off the name of a Winnipeg Goldeye. Reeling together the thirty signs came naturally for the linguistics student.

“I feel like the ones that people remember are ‘Rohm Sweet Rohm’ for David Rohm or ‘Heis Heis Baby’ for Adam Heisler,” said Doucet. “Some of the signs wrote themselves. There’s some that I didn’t really have to think about.”

There’s even a few signs for the stars of the stands.

“I’ve got one for my favourite beer guy,” said Doucet. “I’ve even made one for fan services.”

This is the first season Doucet has brought his banners to Goldeyes’ games. His signs were an instant hit with players.

“It’s clever,” said Goldeyes outfielder David Rohm. “He’s got some pretty good ideas. He’s kind of fun. I think the crowd gets around it.”

Each one helping to make a night of baseball even better.

“It’s such a fun time to come here to the ballpark,” said Doucet. “To know people think I’m adding to that experience is real gratifying for me.”
