With kids back in school, some parents may be quietly celebrating their new-found freedom, but police say one Saanich mom took her back-to-school celebration too far.
Officers said the mother was busted for speeding in a school zone after lighting up a joint to “celebrate” school being back in session.
The mother was deemed sober enough to drive but was issued a ticket for speeding.

The incident came on a day when police were out in force to issue warnings and tickets to drivers who forgot that school zone speed limits are back in effect.
A new poll released on Tuesday found that nearly half of people surveyed believe bad driving behaviour in school zones is a growing problem.
