Students at North Vancouver’s Handsworth Secondary School arrived at the first day of class to find that someone tore up their sports field with a vehicle.
“It was disappointing,” Handsworth principal David Overgaard said. “One of the District of North Vancouver employees who actually looks after the field was here and he was heartbroken to see all his work during the summer — seeding, sodding, watering — to be damaged as it was.”

The story has somewhat of a happy ending. Some Handsworth football players and parents came together Monday to patch up the field ahead of the team’s first game a week from now.
