FREDERICTON – The New Brunswick government says the $540 million highway known as the Route 1 Gateway will officially open by Oct. 25.
The Transportation Department says the 240 kilometres of divided four-lane highway between St. Stephen and River Glade will be completed nearly one year ahead of schedule.

The work includes 55 kilometres of newly twinned highway between Waweig and Lepreau.
Transportation Minister Claude Williams says the project is also being completed on budget.
Dexter Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract to design and build the highway.
Transfield Dexter Gateway Services Ltd. will be responsible for the highway’s operation and maintenance until 2040.
