A towing company employee is seriously injured following a crash that shut down the westbound lanes of Highway 1 near Abbotsford.

The collision happened Saturday morning just west of the Whatcom Road exit.

An air ambulance and two ground ambulances attended the scene.

A manager for Abbotsford-based Aggressive Auto Towing Ltd. told Global News one of his employees was airlifted to hospital with severe leg injuries.

It’s unclear what happened but the tow company believes one car hit another car. The wrecker-operator was picking up a vehicle from that crash when he may have been struck by another vehicle.

Westbound lanes re-opened Saturday afternoon.
