A swarm of brightly dressed fans crowded into downtown Toronto to express their love for all things nerdy during the annual Fan Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Centre Labour Day weekend.
The expo includes appearances from celebrities like the X-Files’ Gillian Anderson, Star Wars’ Mark Hamill and Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee. It’s Lee’s last visit to Canada; the 93-year old says he’s getting too old for multiple trips across the border.
Arguably the main attraction of the event is the cosplayers — people who wear homemade costumes emulating their favourite comic, video game, sci-fi, horror or fantasy character.
Global News’ Chris Jancelewiz was at the event, which runs until Sunday night, and sent back some amazing pictures of everyday people in extraordinary outfits.

The Expo is also reminding people at the convention that “cosplay is not consent.” It’s a continuation of last year’s campaign to stem sexual harassment.
“Please keep your hands to yourself,” the sign reads. “If you would like to take a picture with or of another Fan Expo attendee, always ask first and respect that person’s right to say no.”
