Complete strangers are reaching out to a young family after their Uhaul truck was stolen in the Okanagan.

Ryan Prevost — moving from Vancouver to Calgary — parked his fully loaded Uhaul truck at his parent’s place in Vernon. The truck contained everything Prevost, his wife, and one-year-old daughter owned.

He put out a plea to help find the truck.

So far, the truck hasn’t been located but people have reached out to help the young family.

“We’ve been getting all these emails from people and on Facebook from friends, family and complete strangers asking us what we need,” said Prevost.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He said a woman from Vancouver who is moving from her two bedroom apartment has offered all the furniture in the unit.

Prevost said the generosity has been humbling.

“It brings a tear to my eyes that everyone is offering to help and being so generous.”

And people have been giving cash.

Prevost set up a GoFundMe account. He received $3,000 in less than 12 hours.

Meantime, Prevost has set up a Facebook page to help coordinate the donations in order to prevent overlapping.

Prevost did have insurance but only for the truck and not the contents.
