CN Rail will build a large new facility in Transcona that will train 250 to 300 employees per week.

Officials announced the plan Friday. The railway wouldn’t say how much money it will sink into the project, but say it will be a 100,000 square foot training centre ready to start receiving students in 2014.

The new training centre will be one of just two such facilities being built by CN in North America. The other is being built in Chicago, Illinois.

Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz and Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger were on hand for the announcement but officials say no government money is involved in the project.

Once the facility reaches full capacity, it will see 10 to 12 thousand CN employees from around the country visiting every year for training.
