An elderly couple, forced to live apart in different care homes, will now be moved closer together.
The story of Anita and Wolfram Gottschalk went viral after Global News first reported on it last week.
The couple have been married for 62 years but have been forced to live separately for the past eight months because they have been placed in different care facilities.
Fraser Health has now met with the family and said Wolf, 83, is going to be moved closer to Anita, 81.
The family is relieved and say they are at the top of the list to be placed in the same facility as soon as a bed is available.
“There’s a place called Rosemary Heights and it’s in South Surrey. It’s a five minute drive from where my grandmother is,” said granddaughter Ashley Bartyik. “So we wouldn’t be doing the 40 minute commute.”
“They have a bed available immediately there for him in complex care, which is what he requires so we’ve taken them up on that offer.”
Anita said she can “hardly wait” to be closer to Wolf again.
