Residents in southwest Edmonton warned about rash of break and enters

Edmonton police are reminding residents of several southwest neighbourhoods to lock their doors and windows, after a string of recent day-time break and enters.

“One resident came home, heard footsteps upstairs, then came face-to-face with the thief,” said EPS Cst. David Crisp in a release. “He instructed the thief to drop the bag and its contents, which contained jewelry, cash and computers.”

The suspect then fled the home, riding away on a bicycle. That case was one of 12 break-ins reported to police since Sept. 12th. They’ve happened in the neighbourhoods of Ermineskin, Steinhauer, Sweet Grass, Blue Quill and Skyrattler.

“We want to encourage residents of these neighbourhoods to keep their eyes and ears open, especially if they spot a male knocking on doors in the area, during the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m,” said Cst. Crisp.

If no one answers after he knocks, police believe the suspect then searches for a place to enter.
