Cool overnight temperatures and low winds helped crews battling a fire near the Bear Creek Campground overnight.
Officials say no homes have been lost to the blaze but some outbuildings may be damaged.
The Evacuation Order remains in place and affects approximately 156 properties including the Bear Creek Provincial Park campground, Trader’s Cove subdivision, and properties along Bear Creek Road north of the Parkinson Road intersection including Dougmac, Rose Valley and Petterson Roads.
Another 14 properties in the Pine Point subdivision off Westside Road, north of Traders Cove remain on Evacuation Alert. Those residents should be prepared to leave on short notice should conditions change.
Westside Road is closed between Bear Creek Road and Pine Point subdivision.
Boaters on Okanagan Lake are asked to stay away from the fire area in and around Bear Creek as air support may be used on this fire.
Fire crews from West Kelowna, Wilson’s Landing, North Westside Fire Rescue, Peachland and BC Wildfire Services are still on site.
When the fire started Sunday night, wind conditions were challenging for firefighters because of gusty winds and changeable wind directions.
All people evacuated south from Bear Creek Road are asked to report to the Emergency Support Services Center at 2466 Main Street.
In the meantime, a 23-member crew is also battling a fire in Okanagan Falls. 17 Okanagan Falls, three Kaledon, and three BC Wildfire firefighters were fighting the blaze on Sunday night. Our reporter Neetu Garcha talked to at least two residents in the area who said they were evacuated.
We spoke with a representative at the Kamloops Fire Centre and no information on the fire sizes or causes are available at this time.
