Heart transplant recipient’s wish to meet Winnie the Pooh granted

A dream came true for a Saskatchewan boy, whose wish was granted this past weekend in Langham.

Caleb Hildebrand, 4, found out that Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan is sending him to Disney World later this month to meet Winnie the Pooh in person.

He was born with a life-threatening heart defect and survived a heart transplant when he was just nine months old.

“He’s a really fun boy, lots of energy and really bright boy … and his favourite toy when he was in the hospital and now has always been a little pooh bear teddy bear,” said Caleb’s father, John Hildebrand.

His family spent a lot of time in the hospital but now are looking forward to Caleb’s biggest dream coming true.

“He’s very excited. He’s been wanting to go to pooh bear’s house since about Christmas and he asks almost every night,” said his mother, Arleen Hildebrand.

“It was very, very difficult. Lot of ups and downs and we were separated. We were in Edmonton and my husband was in Saskatoon, so a lot of time apart and hoping your child will make it, not really sure if he will or not.”
