Australian police said on Saturday they thwarted what could have been a serious threat, following the arrest of a 31-year-old man during a series of counter-terrorism raids around the state of Victoria.

Local media reported the man had links to far right groups, but police haven’t confirmed that, except to say the man belongs to “a number’ of organizations.”
The arrest was the culmination of months of work, which police began after they received a tip off early in the year.
The man was arrested during raids in the Melbourne suburb of Braybrook.
Warrants were also carried out in the town of Bacchus Marsh, northwest of Melbourne, and in the town of Tatura in the state’s centre.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
