A 53-year-old man died Friday night after his car collided with a tree in Airdrie.

It happened at the intersection of Yankee and East Lake boulevards at around 8 p.m.

According to RCMP, a black Corvette was traveling eastbound on Yankee Valley Boulevard and was turning north onto East Lake Boulevard when the driver failed to negotiate the turn and crashed into the tree.

Police believe speed is a factor.

The man was alone in the car at the time of the collision.

The man’s name will not be released, police say he was from Airdrie.
